4. They were basically and agricultural center until the 1500’s and the Spanish conquest. They learned new techniques of weaving from the Spanish priests. They brought the design of the loom. The Spanish also brought the first sheep from Europe and taught the Zapotec how to weave it. The area of Teotitlan Del Valle in Oaxaca is a special place. This is where the world-renown rug making originated and still continues today.

5. The vibrant colors and designs are the first thing you will notice about Zapotec weavings. Some rug weavers have started to use synthetic dyes. However, many still use the traditional and natural elements from the area to dye their wool. Pass by the home or workshop of an Oaxacan rug artist throughout the week. You will probably see them dying the wool. They use large pots of rich colored dye, outside on an open fire.

6. Some of the elements used to dye the wool include moss, bark, plants, seeds, fruit and flowers. One of the most interesting dyes they use comes from an insect called the cochineal. Once the insect is dried, it is then crushed into a very fine red powder. This powder is used to make a rich scarlet colored dye.

7. Rug weaving often involves the whole family. Each member has their role in the production of a beautiful rug. The wool must first be cleaned and washed. Next, it is dyed. After that, it is spun into yarn. All this must be done before the weaving process begins.

8. It is fascinating that each rug has its own design. Each is a unique masterpiece of the artist. The fact that no two rugs are the same is one of the reasons that make these rugs very popular.

Top Tips For Furnishing Your Luxury Hotel

Furnishing a luxury hotel can seem like a daunting task. After all, top hotel customers expect their rooms to be beautiful, useful, and a pleasure during their stay. If the customer isn’t happy, woe unto hotel managers. There are a few useful tips in furnishing and decorating a luxury hotel room that can’t go wrong. >

Choose Your Paint Colours Wisely

While it is recommended to fill dining areas with brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows to induce appetite, hotel rooms require a far different palette. The guests’ rooms should be drenched in restful colours that create a peaceful aura. Off-whites and neutral tones, soft greys, muted golds, and silver patinas provide soothing feelings. The same goes for any tiles or wallpaper chosen.

Pay Attention to Furniture Choices

While spare, spindly, luxury furniture can be visually appealing and elegant, they do nothing for comfort. Choose pieces of furniture that offer comfort as well as aesthetic appeal. Rich brocades and embroidery are lovely and luxurious, but can just as well be chosen on furniture that is large and soft. Luxury furniture does not have to be uncomfortable. Remember that hotel rooms are for relaxation on a vacation or business trip, not simply a work of art to be looked upon.

Make sure that there is plenty of seating in your guest rooms. A single chair is not sufficient. Three or four chairs, whether you choose to match them perfectly or have mismatched coordination, will suffice for guests and anyone they might have visiting. Tables are also a necessity. Other than bedside tables, there should be a desk and at least one useful table in each room where guests can eat, read, and perform other tasks.

Don’t Go Stingy on Accessories

Throw pillows can add a great deal of beauty and appeal to a room without spending a large amount of money. Incorporate fabric throw pillows that have interest – embroidered fabric, tassels, or a fabric with sheen. These can sit on the bed as well as in any chairs.

The Importance of Fabrics

When choosing bedding and window treatments, consider how they will perform. Looking nice doesn’t matter if sheets are scratchy or draperies allow in too much light after dark. Choose bedding for your guest rooms in lush fabrics such as Egyptian cotton, satin, or raw silks, if you are going the expensive route. Window treatments should make a guest feel as if their room is a cocoon away from the chaotic world when the drapes are closed.

Arrange Beautiful Enticements for Guests

Bottles of wine and gourmet chocolates are not the only ways to please a guest immediately upon entering his or her room. Sometimes, a simple, crystal carafe of ice cold water can be the most welcome addition when a guest walks in from lengthy travel. Lightly-scented lotions and bath items such as bath salts, loofas, or bubble bath in a pretty bottle are wonderfully luxurious for a lady guest.

If you have a house repair or remodeling project, you’ve got a lot of choices nowadays when it comes to shopping and evaluating contractors and service providers. Before you make a determination on which firm to hire for the project look for reviews and do research on local organizations and contractors.

Angies List and ServiceMagic are the two biggest players in this market. There are plenty of disparities between these organizations even though they provide comparable services. Comparing the companies is an crucial thing to do before we get any further.

Lets start out with Angies List. You will have to pay a monthly or annual membership fee in order to gain access to direct feedback on firms from other homeowners or shoppers in the area. Customers are encouraged to write fair, precise and real reviews or risk them being eliminated. There is a very wide array of organizations and industries to review on Angies List overall. The great real life opinions and enormous database are definite positives for the program. Problems are provided in the form of the annual or monthly fee that is charged to all customers.

No fees at all, on the flip side, are incurred by Service magic. Contractors, on the other hand, are charged by the website for the recommendations that they receive. Angies List does offer a more comprehensive customer review component, but ServiceMagic also has a component. The best part of ServiceMagic is that it does the background work for you so you can hire someone tomorrow. Your project will get the benefit of several pre-qualified and pre-screened firms simply by furnishing your details. Contractors must meet ServiceMagics arduous contractor screening process in order to be able to access your information and it is their job to contact you. The biggest negative associated with ServiceMagic is that you will be inundated by local companies after submitting your project.

And so the question then becomes, who is better, Service magic or Angies List?

The best answer is that it all depends on your situation. A membership to Angies List will give you access to detailed reviews from other consumers in your area, making it worth your while. For people that dont want to wait for the service provider or service provider to call them will be better off with ServiceMagic.

Many people actually use both solutions in order to get the most out of their searching and to be prepared for homebuilding. Some people use ServiceMagic to get a list of trustworthy local companies and then compare those sites to the review sites like Angies List.

Furnishing Your Home With Beauty

Many people love owning their own homes because there is nobody to answer to when compared to renting property. What this means is that the owner has the ability to add or get rid of things at their discretion, creating a place that they feel comfortable in and calling home. One of the most common ways that people achieve this goal is to add items such as furniture to complete a theme or look that they are striving for. There are so many different styles of furniture that it can seem very overwhelming to pick something that creatively accents a particular room. However, there are many options when it comes to purchasing and obtaining the furniture that makes an owner feel comfortable in their own homes.

One of the most popular types of furniture that is available for very cheap in many different resources for those looking for cheap furniture is wrought iron furniture. These include items such as wrought iron tables, wrought iron chairs and wrought iron beds. The reason people choose this style of furniture is because they present a very visually interesting aesthetic that can complete and compliment many other styles of dcor.

Wrought iron furniture is distinguishable by its parallel lines of iron and designs that incorporate more space than average for furniture. Twisting metal is a defining characteristic and helps to create some rather unique pieces of furniture that can help complete any room. However, finding wrought iron furniture can be a bit of a challenge for those who are not familiar with resource such as the Internet. The Internet is a fantastic tool for finding furniture because it allows the user to find exactly what they are looking for at an extremely affordable price.

There are many sites on the Internet where people sell unwanted items. This includes wrought iron tables, wrought iron beds and wrought iron chairs. Auction sites such as eBay or Craigslist hold a plethora of items that are always being sold at far below retail price. On these sites people try to outbid each other for items they need. However, for those people that do not wish to compete with others and dont want to take a chance on being outbid, there are regular retail sites where products are sold at normal prices. These sites guarantee that one gets what they want in brand new condition.

With regular retail sites one can have items shipped right to their doorstep, saving both time and money in the process of looking for that perfect piece of iron furniture. A good deal of these websites also feature deals and discounts and accept coupon codes that slash prices, allowing for an easier way to get what one needs. The Internet can be a great resource as it contains retailer websites that feature information such as where retailers are located and how much their products cost. This is helpful for the potential buyer because then they can go and visit the retailer, seeing the item they want up-close, which then helps them to make an informed decision.

Clever Ideas For Low Cost Bar Stools And Discount Seats

Discount bar stools are always available at big retailers like Wal-Mart and Target. Unfortunately, these same stools aren’t very well made and are about as comfortable as their $5.99 price tag would suggest.

If you’re looking for ideas on what to do with your bar stools, whether collapsible or not, keep reading.

Flower Stand

For less than $10 a stool, you can create a tiered plant atrium that’s funky and functional. First, look for cheap bar stools that have a solid, hard top rather than a padded seat. Then, cut each stand to a different height by sawing off the legs, but be careful that the stool is still level.

When you’re ready, strip each stool, sand it down, prime it and paint it with your own custom colors. Take your plant stand customization further with some beading or funky fringe.

Bar stool customization doesn’t have to stop at paint and plants. You can take it up a notch with decoupage collages, mosaic tiling or impressive beaded seats. Your funky design will instantly take that stool from discount to diva.

Bedroom Tables

Discount bar stools make fantastic bedside tables. They’re small, sturdy and unobtrusive. If you’re worried about how it will blend in with your dcor, throw some fabric over it or a tablecloth to give it a softer look. If you like to keep a glass of water by your bed, you should use a hard-topped stool rather than the vinyl-topped models.

If you’re really ambitious, try reupholstering your bar stool and replacing the trademark vinyl covering with a fabric that speaks to your personal style. For added durability, use an upholstery weight fabric that can stand up to ongoing use.

Camping Stools

Folding lawn chairs are cumbersome and often overkill as they take up way more space than what’s needed. Meanwhile, a folding and lightweight bar stool can be easily tucked in the car. Whether you’re going to your kid’s soccer game, to watch fireworks down by the lake or spending a few days in the great outdoors, a portable stool is sure to come in handy.

Guest Seating

One of the best uses for discount bar stools is as extra seating for guests. For family reunions, local events, games nights or even as children’s seating for dinner parties, those stools can go a long way.

Instead of buying massive stackable chairs that are cumbersome and take up space, a folding bar stool can be easily stacked or hung.

How To Build An Outdoor Playhouse

An outdoor playhouse can be quite a lasting, beautiful place for children to play and use their imaginations, socialize, have fun, and revel in having a retreat space of the very own. There are some options when it comes to outdoor playhouses, ranging from purchasing a ready-made or even easily assembled plastic tot-sized structure to following plans as well as doing it yourself. You have the in-between choice of putting together an outdoor playhouse from a kit too. How do you pick the right outdoor playhouse for your family? Here are a few factors to consider that may help you decide.

Age of Kid(s)

If your child or youngsters are toddlers, there is no need to build a real house. This particular age group requires a small-sized space that is ready-made. The best playhouse for the child set is really a plastic prefab model from retailers such as Little Tikes, Step 2, or Children Cabin. They are made with places for climbing, crawling through, doors, windows, and some have slides too. They’re not very costly, weather proof, as well as long lasting. They’re also portable, in the event you need to mow the lawn or have to bring it inside for the winter. Some disassemble for easy storage space.

Long Range Plans, Size and Skill

In case your children are older and the playhouse is supposed to be like the function of a tree house, (but on the ground), you need so that it is larger, lasting, and of a permanent nature. You may also think of utilizing it for a shed when the kids go off to university. For a framework of this type, consider either doing it yourself, or purchasing a kit. Determining between the two involves weighing cost and the period of time you have to spend on the project, together with considering how handy you’re with tools. Kits are all-inclusive, pre-cut, and available with flooring.

Do-it-yourself projects allow a person to select any style or dimension, and are a good way to get knowledge about building a real house, setting up flooring, roof covering, and following a plan. These types of skills can be valuable when those home repair needs come up. You can assume that a DIY outdoor playhouse project will need about seven full days for a two-person team to accomplish. Also, consider the space you have available and how the actual playhouse will fit in with your landscaping.

Gender preferences

Girls and boys like various styles with regards to outdoor playhouses. Boys tend to choose forts, cabins, castles, and tree houses. Their style of play tends toward the physical, with hide and seek games and physical challenges. Girls prefer realistic role-play activities with furnishings and pretend play. Satisfying the desires of both genders can be a challenging set of compromises, however it can be achieved. Include the kids for making choices so they have a state, and they’ll like it. It’s also great to involve them in the assembly and/or creating as much as possible. Certainly, the kids should be allowed to assist with the painting and designing of their outdoor playhouse.

Other Considerations

Most cities will not need a building permit if the size of the house is a 10′ cube or smaller. Check with the regulations of the particular city before attempting a project, so you don’t have any surprises when you start out. As long as no one is residing there and also the playhouse will not be including plumbing related, there should not be a need to pay taxes as an outbuilding. Yet, make sure before you begin by checking with your city.

Your Shopping Habits Reveal Your Personality

Do you hunt for bargains or do you shop impulsively? Either way, your shopping habits can reveal much about your personality, says a psychiatrist. Here are 8 types of shoppers and what their buying habits show. Find out which type you belong to.

LIST SHOPPER – You make shopping lists because you consider your budget and the needs of your household carefully. In general this means that you are considerate of others’ feelings and needs, as well as organized and reliable, but sometimes you are not as flexible as you might be-and that could cause problems. However, the female list shopper tends to deal well with her children. Her children know that they can depend on her.

SCHEDULED SHOPPER – Shopping only on certain days and carefully planning the shopping in advance give you more time for leisure and other things. You know how to save time and money and serve well-prepared meals, but you tend to have a rigid personality, always wanting to keep to some schedule. Your inflexibility can occasionally cause you to be depressed. Also, your compulsive behavior can drive others away because no one can relax around you.

HAPHAZARD SHOPPER – You have a busy and interesting life and can barely spare time for shopping, but you may have friction at home because you tend to buy more than you need and pay higher prices. This can also cause you to feel dissatisfied with yourself. You are susceptible to being fast-talked by salesmen. Look for ways to get better value for your money.

BARGAIN HUNTER – You are a secure type of person who knows how to wait for what you want in life. You are mature and you think highly of yourself.

IMPULSIVE SHOPPER – You are swayed by color and by advertising and you sometimes buy just because others are buying. This often leads to dissatisfaction with yourself because you didn’t give any thought to your purchases. You are insecure and have a hard time making decisions. Your impulsiveness can hurt often your relationships with others.

BUYING AND RETURNING -You’re partly an impulse buyer and you tend to be insecure in your personal life. You don’t take stock of what you need and then you end up being uncertain and return things.

COMPULSIVE BUYER – You have a tremendous appetite for everything, including food. You know all about fashions, furnishings and prices, and you are willing to share your knowledge with others, so you enjoy good relationships.

LAST-MINUTE SHOPPER -You are tardy in general and easily distracted, but you tend to be pleasant and friendly and have high self-esteem. You are flexible and will take whatever is available if you can’t get what you really want.

Advice On Decorating And Furnishing A Buy-to-let Property

Furnishing a buy-to-let in Sofia!
The ground rules for renovating for successful tenanting of a residential rental property are space-light-neutral-accessorise!:
Space = value: Creating the illusion of more space (hence more rental income compared to similar apartments) is based on choosing lighter space enhancing tones for paint and flooring and even the kitchen which enhance rather than detract from the sense of space. Let’s face it most developers tend to maximise the so called ‘common areas’ and your average 120 m2 2 bed apartment is then in real terms more like 95 m2 of habitable space. Obviously with such a relatively limited amount of space you do not want to crowd the apartment with heavy dark or traditional style furnishing which may detract from the illusion of space that you are trying to create. It is a highly competitive business especially after the building boom so every small advantage you can get at design stage will help to differentiate your product i.e. your apartment at point of ‘sale’ i.e. renting to a potential tenant. If with these 4 simple steps you can create the illusion of having 10% more space than is physically there then your apartment will be chosen against a similar apartment which again on paper is offering the same or similar living space. To create this sense of space I advise knocking out as many unnecessary partition walls as possible to open up the property to allow natural light and movement and communication with the person cooking in the kitchen transforming it into a shared social activity rather than a solitary experience. Of course you have to weigh this against the odour from the kitchen which will then spread around the apartment. However with modern strong extractor hoods (absorbatori) you resolve most of this issue and in any case with hectic modern lifestyles many people nowadays whether you like it or not microwave their food or simply cook a quick snack or re-heat a takeaway, this is the hard reality of modern living! The strategic use of mirrors is also as I am sure you are aware key to creating the illusion of space. Regarding furnishing space is created by choosing glass tables over heavy wood items as it is all about allowing the onlooker’s eye to travel around the room without obstruction giving this valuable sensation of space that you need for optimum rental. The other area that affects space impression is the choice of flooring polished tiles reflect back the light, whilst lighter parquet floors also create a sense of space especially classical styles with a modern twist such as bleached oak laminate flooring. Regarding the skirting the eye should be allowed again to travel to infinity without obstruction through the wall so a trick here is to make the skirting the same colour as the wall not the floor, yes I know it is counter-intuitive but believe me it works! For wall paints light yellow/primrose is good for bedrooms cosy and fresh at the same time with green undertones to reflect back light and give a sensation of space. Very pale green is space enhancing as is very pale mauve/salmon (NOT PINK!), even the lightest of biscuit or browns can accent a specific wall for detail. The best colour for enhancing space is a very light grey almost but NOT WHITE as this rather like URULU (Ayers Rock in Australia) then allows external light to penetrate the surface of the paint then reflect back so that the walls then take on a life of their own at different times of the day reflecting back the shade and light from the source of natural light. However I heard you today with Maria and you have good ideas for the paint colours so this is obviously one of your strong points where you have a clear vision.

Light = space: More lights are better than less lights it is an affordable way of zoning a property especially when it is open plan and gives a cost effective sense of luxury to the future tenant, for this it is always good to have a zone where there is a dimmer switch to allow the occupants to change the mood of their environment. Light also refers to light tones for paint and flooring and furnishing. One trick taught to me by an architect who rented out her London property to tennis stars is to have a cream or White leather sofa s a feature in the property, don’t ask me why but it works when attracting the all important tenant you seek! Many of the furnishing and finishing points such as use of mirrors and polished Gres tiles is also mentioned in the section above. Breaking down partition walls internally also allows light to filter through the property. Darker floor & wall finishing and furnishing is OK for rental but only in large apartments with high ceiling s and lots of natural light where they will not dominate or cramp the available space but rather enhance it by making it on a more human scale. So I would recommend this for apartments with over 150 m2 in livable space where you do not face the challenge of making the property feel bigger than it really is to compensate for the size.

Neutral = mass appeal:
Tenants do not need or want to feel that your style or anybody Else’s for that matter has been imposed on them. Having neutral coordinated tones throughout the apartment helps to allow the prospective tenant to imagine living there and bringing their own accessories paintings and personal possessions into the space to make it their own. Rather than restricting and limiting your options you want to appeal to the most people possible whilst offending the least possible this is where the neutral element comes into it’s own. It may seem bland and boring not cosy or unappealing to you or I but let’s face it we are not going to live there it is a rental property a rental unit a retail business commodity that you want maximum ROI on as a result!

Accessorise:
This is another reason to avoid the heavy cosy so called ‘oyutno’ style so favoured by local designers and property owners seeking international and executive tenants for their rental property. You can always accessorise with cushions and the odd painting on the wall or a small carpet under the coffee table or curtains etc… to give the place character if you are afraid that so much light and neutral leaves the place feeling sterile believe me this is far from my intentions as you can see by an apartment I bought, gutted and renovated from a shell to a luxury hi-end property in 3-4 months when I first came to BG. It is only 111 m2 but it feels like many properties of 140 m2 due to the design focused on open spaces, neutral tones, accent colours and light space enhancing finishing materials . This property encapsulates the styling I recommend for rental property without being too crazy or modern but with that constant theme of space-light-neutral-accent-accessorise!

If you want to spend real money from the budget that will make a difference to help get your property rented-out then spend most time and thought on the kitchen and the bathroom it is still a woman’s world and they invariably choose the property for their man when it comes to renting, this is the same the world over!

I hope this diatribe has not put you to sleep yet and that you have managed to read through it if you have congratulations and I hope that at the very least I have been of help and that you now see I have method in my madness!
